For me, golf (well in this case minigolf) is the perfect sport for the Oculus Go. Cloudlands: VR Minigolf is a game that was I super excited to play. Actually, before I even downloaded this one myself, I had heard more than a few people talk about how fun this game was. So, does Cloudlands: VR Minigolf manage to bring the thrills, spills and shots that cannon the ball off something and back at your head of the real thing? Well, that is what we are taking a look at today.

I want to start this by saying that Cloudlands: VR Minigolf feels just like you are playing an actual game of minigolf and that is probably the biggest compliment that I can give it. This is a game that is designed to be played standing up and I really do think that they have done an awesome job in making you feel like you are actually playing on a real minigolf courseā€¦ all be it one that is located, high up in the clouds.

To get the best out of Cloudlands: VR Minigolf you really need to play it like you are playing a real game of minigolf. I found that when I was trying to play this like a video game, I was kind of struggling, but as soon as I started treating it like I was on an actual minigolf course it all started to click for me. The Oculus Go controller feels just like you are holding a putter and I can count on one hand the number of times one of my shots did not connect the way I intended it to do.

There is only one course here, but it is a full 18-hole course. As far as the holes go, like on any minigolf course, some are very easy and some are overly complex. Getting a hole in one or finally nailing some kind of trick shot is really cool stuff. On the flipside of this Cloudlands: VR Minigolf also has that same frustration (but I mean that in a fun way) that comes with real minigolf where no matter what you do, you just suck! Rather than being frustrating to the point of wanting to turn it off, it just makes you laugh and want to keep trying.

The presentation is a little sparse and the whole being in the clouds thing if I am honest does not really bring much to the table. Still, the course is charming enough, but I do wonder how much more epic it could have been had the people behind the game used their imagination just a little bit more. Or at the very least let you play at night, I think playing at night with the course all lit up would have been cool.

Cloudlands: VR Minigolf does also have a pretty robust multiplayer aspect. You can play online with other players which of course is fun. If you have a buddy who has their own Oculus Go, you guys can even do some local co-op. One other cool aspect is that you can actually download other courses that other people have made. I did not actually do this and you have to do it all via your computer, but I do think the idea of getting more courses to play is great.

It is very easy to see why Cloudlands: VR Minigolf is one of the most popular games for the Oculus Go. Just like real minigolf, anyone can play this and have a fun time, even if they are not that great. I had a lot of fun with the game and while it has a few technical issues, for the most part, this was a wonderful experience and one I would truly love to see a sequel to.

Pros:

Plays just like real minigolf

The Oculus Go controller feels great

It is a game that anyone can play and have fun with

18 different holes
