Apex Construct for the Oculus Rift is a truly fantastic game and a game I legit could not put down. I love it when a developer makes a game with VR in mind from the start and that is clearly what happened here. This is a very story-based kind of game and it plays to all the of strengths that VR has. It makes it a truly remarkable and memorable experience that all Oculus Rift owners need to check out.

The story and setting of Apex Construct really captivated me. The game puts you into this fantastic world that has all these robotic creatures in it. You are caught in the middle of a war between two entities. The AI Fathr and the AI Mothr. At first, it appears that the AI Fathr has your best interest at heart and the AI Mothr is the villain. However, the story is very clever and you soon realize that in this world. What appears to be black and white is not always the case. The voice acting is just superb (as are the visuals) so it really does make you feel like you are in this world.

When it comes to the gameplay of Apex Construct on the Oculus Rift, I was very happy with how it played. It is pretty much a first-person shooter and you, for the most part, will be using this really cool bow weapon. This can also be used as your shield and quickly going from blocking to firing off a shot is really the key when it comes to combat. The bow does not have an aiming reticle so getting used to how this handles can be a little frustrating at first, but when it all clicks, it makes combat a very rewarding experience.

The levels of Apex Construct do not hold your hand. You are giving a clear objective of where you need to go or what you need to do. However, the way you go about this is left to you. There is plenty to explore here and there are some logs you can find which help flesh out the story as well as items that you can bring back to the safehouse which is where you can upgrade the items that you have. Also, once, you finish a level, most of the time a new area will be unlocked so going back and exploring an area more is something the game greatly encourages.

I was very impressed with how the game played. I used the touch controllers and they worked great for not just moving around, but the bow as well. There are some sections where you have to type and these were very responsive and not frustrating too. While I never used it, the game does also have an option for left-handed players which I thought was pretty cool.

Overall, Apex Construct for the Oculus Rift is exactly the kind of game I want to see more of in the VR landscape. It is smart, cool, badass and it has a fantastic story that grips you from the very start. I highly recommend that you check this one out and let me tell you the less you know about the story going in, the better it will be for you!
