I think that I have spent more time with World of Mazes than any other VR game! I have played every version of this and now I am having some fun putting the Oculus Go version of World of Mazes through its paces. If there is one game that goes hand in hand with VR gaming it is this one right here.

The Story

I have played a ton of maze and puzzle games for the Oculus Go and other VR devices. Most of these are great and all, but the story is never really something that they are concerned with. World of Mazes is very different in that regard as this is one of the most (possibly THE most) story-driven of all the maze and puzzle games that I have played over the years.

The story of the game is something that I got very invested in. You are inside this prison and you are with a man called Gelavon and he lets you know that while he is in here Princess Maya is in grave danger. He is her servant; she was kidnapped and he was thrown into this prison. You agree to help him escape and save the princess. There is actually more to the story than just that, but I do not want to spoil it for you. The story is very well told and very entertaining

The Gameplay

I have had a great time with World of Mazes on the Oculus Go. The story is great, but the gameplay is truly fantastic. There is just so much going on here that I really do not know where to start! There are a ton of mazes for you to explore and no two of them ever feel exactly the same. Of course, the main goal of each maze you are in is to find your way to the exit that will let you take on the next one, but there is far more to World of Mazes than just that!

You see getting from point a to point b is just the start of what you need to be concerned with. You also need to interact with all kinds of interesting characters. You may need to use a specific object to complete a puzzle and you may also just have to run for your life. I really like the way that the game keeps changing things up on you and this makes World of Mazes a true joy to play through. Seriously, I have played this game to death and it is always a fun and entertaining game. It actually makes me think that this is how a Zelda game could work in the world of VR!

The Presentation

World of Mazes is a great looking game. They have gone for a real fantasy kind of look here and that is an art style that I am always happy to see. The Oculus Go version I would say is not quite as sharp as what the Oculus Rift offers, but it is still a great looking game that is for sure. Everything has a rather smooth and shiny look to it and that is ok in my book. I do not think the character or monster models are the most detailed I have seen, but that is me really being nit-picky!

What I do love about the presentation is just how varied it is. There is such a great variety of the kinds of mazes you will be exploring. Some have a kind of Aztec look to them; others make you feel like you are in a forest and then you have one that looks like you are in hell! It is very well done and I feel this is a huge part of what makes going to each new location so exciting as you never know what the game is going to throw your way.

Final Thoughts

No matter if you play World of Mazes on Oculus Go or any other VR device, you are always in for a fantastic time. This is one of my all-time favorite VR games and even though the Oculus Go is a bit more “modest” in terms of the power behind it, World of Mazes is still an excellent game and a must-have in your Oculus Go collection.
