I Expect You To Die was first released around three years ago and was a bit of a VR success story. Well, now the game has made the jump to the Oculus Quest and from what I can tell, no sacrifices have been required to get the game looking just as good on here as it does on the Oculus Rift.

The whole schtick of I Expect You To Die is that it is a spoof of the classic James Bond movies. It has a hilarious intro song that you will be smiling the whole time you hear it. You may be thinking that as this is a spoof on James Bond that we are dealing with some kind of action-packed shooter game. Well, that is not the case at all, instead, I Expect You To Die is probably best described as a puzzle kind of game.

Each level will have you in a confined space and it is up to you to figure out what you need to do in order to survive. There is actually a ton of variety here to the different things that you have to do and I think that is why there could be so few levels. Although to be fair in that regard this Oculus Quest version does have an extra level that I do not remember being on the Oculus Rift.

Anyway, you may have to dodge a laser, figure out how to open a door, impersonate a window cleaner and many more things. You are like the ultimate spy and being the ultimate spy means that you should be able to adapt to any situation that comes your way. Figuring out what to do can be tricky, but the puzzles are never so obscure that it makes you frustrated or lose interest with the game. There is a lot of trial and error here, but that is actually done on purpose.

I love the presentation of the game and for me personally, I get a very 70s and 80s (maybe with a touch of Pierce Brosnan here and there) Bond vibe. The visuals look great on the Oculus Quest and I never noticed much if any difference from the way the game looked on the Oculus Rift.

One thing that I think makes this a preferred way to play I Expect You To Die though is the controls. The Oculus Quest being fully wireless really comes into its own here. The tracking is fantastic and the game is very smart at how it makes you feel exactly where you need to be in its virtual world. Seriously many other games should take note of this as I never had one kind of tracking or technical issue when playing this. If I died, it was always because I was either too slow to react to a hazard or I made a mistake.

I think that I Expect You To Die on the Oculus Quest is a tremendous game. I spent a lot of time with this when it was first released and I must say this is better than I even remembered it being and this is from someone who loved it back in 2016. With clever puzzles and some very funny humor, you will not be disappointed with I Expect You To Die and I would go as far as to say this is a must-have for your Oculus Quest.

Pros:

It has a very tongue in cheek sense of humor

Lots of clever puzzles

Even when you die it is fun

The tracking is perfect with the Oculus Quest

An excellent showcase of VR

Cons:

The game is a little bit short

Maybe some more “action” would have been nice
